National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)/Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP)

The University of New Mexico is currently accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) as of May, 2016. This accreditation decision indicates that the education preparation provider (EPP) and its programs meet rigorous standards set forth by the professional education community.

  • Art Education BAED & MA with Licensure
  • Early Childhood Multicultural Education BS
  • Elementary Education BSED & MA with Alternative Route to Licensure
  • Music Education BME
  • Physical Education BSED
  • Secondary Education BSED/BAED & MA with Alternative Route to Licensure
  • Special Education BSED, MA with Alternative Route to Licensure

Advanced Programs covered by NCATE Accreditation:

  • Counselor Education MA
  • Educational Diagnostician Graduate Certificate
  • Educational Leadership MA & EdSPC
  • Elementary Education MA
  • Language, Literacy, & Sociocultural Studies MA

In 2010, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC) formed a new accrediting body, the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).

  • The college’s next reaccreditation visit will be under CAEP. The visit will take place in Fall 2022.
